Museum of Glass

Museum of Glass is located in the heart of Tacoma’s cultural district. Opened in 2002, the Museum has become a venue for both permanent and travelling glass exhibitions and is home to the popular Hot Shop, where visitors can watch artists demonstrate the process of creating works of art from molten glass.

The Museum’s permanent collections include 20th and 21st century glasswork, Kid’s Design glass (artwork created by a variety of artists who interpreted drawings submitted by children), pieces from the Museum’s Visiting Artist Residency Program and Seattle artist Cappy Thompson’s Gathering The Light.

Upcoming exhibitions include glass collections from Australia, Ireland and the Czech Republic.

As part of the Museum’s public programs, members of the public can take advantage of Third Thursday ArtMingle, when entry is free of charge between 5 and 8 p.m., and Family Days, which occur the second Saturday of each month between 1 and 4 p.m. and offer visitors of all ages the opportunity to make their own art.

Whether visitors choose to stroll through the exhibitions or watch a live glassblowing demonstration, the Museum of Glass strives to offer a unique art experience for everyone.
